Those photos are 100% film.
No photoshop, flash, and filters.

He relies on natural light.
He is the only photographer in the world still doing this.

This is fine art film photography.
I learned a bit about the material used in gallery: Fuji Crystal Archive, which a lovely art consultant (at the gallery) educated me greatly about. The crystals are light sensitive which causes the image looks more 3-D. That completely impacts me when I saw those photos in person. It was like I was there.

I love how he tells his stories of what happened in each photo. This is my favorite one:

White River National Forest, CO
The town, founded in 1888, has never had electricity, even to this day. And this mill didn't press grain either. This wonderful old mill is all that is left of a mechanical air compressor used in the processing of Silver Ore for a couple of mines located on the hill above the mill and is all that remains of those mines.

Access to this place is rugged and requires a 4x4 and true grit, depending on the route taken.

This part of Colorado is tough to get to, but so magnificent you need to (dare I say "must") put it on your 'list'.

The North: Upward Road

For two weeks, I went on a trip heading north. The absorbency was full of nature, historical architecture, and the energy of new souls.

North California:
Ukiah has great thrifts, I was able to trade in my clothes for some jewelry and a purse.
In Willits, there's a local soapmaker called Dancing Madrone -- I love their Night Blooming Tuberose.
Ferndale is the most cutest town full of Victorian-style houses. Kinetic Sculpture Race is shown at art studio, full of funny-looking homemade cars. I especially enjoyed the Ferndale Museum. Though, a few of the dummies were scary-looking...

Centerville Beach is a must-see, it's 5 miles west of Ferndale. I am so glad I have the curious bug that I decided to lurk by, just for heck of it.

I enjoy Eureka, especially their rare books. Arrk. I could spend hours in the stores: Booklegger and Eureka Books. All Under Heaven (228 F St) has great Asian stationery supplies. Humboldt Herbals has magnificent homemade tea leaves. The murals all over downtown are lovely to look at, as well. I tried to look for oil change around here, most are expensive and ridiculous. I had to note that Midas at 2125 4th St has the best oil change deal and plus, the owner was super-friendly. ♥

Redwood National Park: Trinity River, Patrick Point, Fern Canyon!

Oregon:

Alpha Bit at Mapleton is amazing. I highly recommended anyone to stop by this cafe\shop. The people is friendly, they all work at a communal farm 45 minutes northeast. Alpha Farm was inspiring for me. I meticulously did a work's day, the homemade dinner cause us lovely food-coma, and I enjoyed the mysterious souls' scribbles.

Kate Harnedy is a part of the community -- she's a photographer. Our artistic conversations were wonderful and I love how she captures the aura of Alpha Farm in this shot. Check more of her works at Diva in Eugene, OR.

Astoria, the tip northwest of Oregon, fulfilled my Goonies passion! Seeing the houses, jailhouse, and the scenery really brought me to my childhood past. ♥ The best time to bird-view the town via the Astoria Column is on a sunny day! Do check the visitor center, the people there are very helpful.

And it was time to head back to the bay area... still did a few stops! Youngs River Fall is a great place to camp or to swim. Definitely. It seems nobody goes there anymore.

PDX -- For thrift-thrillers like me, do take a peek at Goodwill Bins. There's many cheap stuff you can get. They charge by pound, which is amazing but one needs to be patient. It's best to come by in the early morning as the savages are less fierce.

Crater Lake is 35 miles-loop, and it took me 4.5 hours to complete the sightseeing, overlook stops, and a 2.2 miles hiking to the bottom just to touch the fresh, pure water.

That was a lovely closing for the north trip. And shall I have abundant dreams of this...

update: a month ago, i ordered rings from this store online and turns one one of the rings gave me green stain (aka fake metal), but knowing the trick of painting clear nail polish would make it wearable, i was still fine with it. the owner knows how i felt this -- the price wasn't reasonable ($15) for a fake metal ring. I never got a response. :( nevertheless, i still love the collection..

Inspirations Bestowed Upon...

Even though I grew up in Southern California, i always find inspiration in something old or new.

I went straight to Riverside, CA. I've always hold a fond feeling for the Mission Inn. If you ever drive through Riverside, do stop by this beautiful gigantic inn. I've been coming to this place a couple of times growing up. Back then, I never really bother to take a pause and realize the beauty. Oh, the innocence of youth!

The next day, I lurked around in Temecula, which is famously known for its winery. I was impressed and kept asking "why" was it located in such hot area? My dear friend did not have an answer for me so I turned to Mister Google. Though, I didn't find anything about the hot weather, here's what I found out about the city:

"The first vineyards and wineries were established to draw potential home-buyers to the area. When the I-15 Freeway between Los Angeles County and San Diego County was completed, real estate development accelerated even more."

I find that interesting because I found an article by LA Times about a law that prevents real estate leechers from developing, which could push out potential vintners. I guess the vintners are realizing how annoying the home-buyers can be.

After that, I went to the Grove in Los Angeles. My friend and I happily ate great meals at Cheesecake Factory -- try the dumplings under appetizers! Gawd.... and with our full stomachs, we stumbled upon a runway in middle of the Grove.

Saw a few models from ANTM and Nick from Project Runway. The open bar made us feel nice but our heights feel a little inadequate among the crowds...

And the next day, I wore heels for a friend of a friend's birthday at Commonwealth Lounge.

The music was good, people were bit attitude-y (really, that ass-territory woman?) & slightly big, strong drinks for reasonably priced at $7. Though, the fashion scene wasn't my type.

I had to stop with my leisure time & did my errands (bridesmaid alternation and so on). I must make a note of this place I ate at -- Mad Greek. It was deliciously wonderful. I like eating outside by the small foundation, tacky but still cute!

After the trip, I drove back to the bay area via the route 99.

There were great thrift stores along the route -- I was happily dosaged. :D Though, a few towns has a strong Christian tone, it was hard finding good books among their collection. Otherwise, it was an enjoyable alternative route to route 5.

I decided to make a note of all places I've been to. this is my first post like this. beside, it's a good reminder for me :)

Nell Brinkley

Nell Brinkley was one of the famous American comic artists at the beginning of the twentieth century. In 1902, while still a young student, she was hired as an illustrator by the Denver Post for $7 per week, and drew romantic cartoons. Four years later she moved to New York City where she worked for William Randolf Hearst and the New York Evening Journal. Her work also appeared in Harpers, Cosmopolitan and Good Housekeeping, but she stayed with Hearst for 31 years.

Nell had always refused to create comics, despite the urgings of Evening Journal editor Arthur Brisbane. Nevertheless, she would occasionally produce multi-panelled thematic pages and some narratives, that are essentially comics. One good example of these, 'The Five Senses', was selected by historian Thomas Craven to represent her in his mammoth 1943 anthology Cartoon.

Aubrey Beardsley

The other day as I was driving north on Telegraph Avenue in Berkeley, my eyes took a sharp look on my left (no worries, my driving skills were intact). I saw junk. Several junk scattered across the front yard of a Victorian house. This type of sighting is highly common for the Bay area. It always trigger my artistic passion. The potential in finding a holy grail in the remnants of unwanted items-- oh my, exceed than what I could have expect. All that savaging, searching, and browsing! Yes, I do sometimes get overexcited (like that time when a dear friend and I dove in a bookshelves full of folklore and all of the books fell on us) and therefore, I must try to be gentle.

I love to see what creativity lies in such a place like this. A red mannequin holding a microphone while flaunting a Viking hat seems to be nodding at me. "Fantastic," we silently agreed. I lurked under a spider's stringy masterpiece, toe-tipped around the unorganized bulky papers, and sneezed near the dusty asymmetrical, broken scraps. I suddenly felt like that girl who found the secret garden. Magnificent!
My heart fluttered while I tried to take everything in with my nearsighted glasses. My brain is questioning too much, "Who, what, how did those items got here? And from where?"

I frequently made up stories for each item I studied. Did the old owner lost the lovely mirror? Did the previous sad keeper had to gave up that typewriter because it reminds her too much of the torrid affair she had with her best friend's boyfriend? What if that antler trophy was just a lie and it was actually the deer he struck with his Lands Rover but he just was trying to win the approval of his fiancée’s dad?

All the thoughts went out back of my head the second I found a specific, rare book. A biography book titled, 'Beardsley'. I gasped, shuddered a bit, hands tightened on the edges of this very book. Is it the Aubrey Beardsley biography I have been searching for a long time? I silently prayed to the spiritual energy around me to bestow upon me the inspiring gift possible...

"John Keats," were the first few words I saw when I opened the book. Those two words ensured it was the Aubrey Beardsley biography I have been looking for.

I exploded right there. Bits of my brain and my heart all out over the dusty items. Some skin pieces fell through the masterpiece, destroying weeks of work by a devoted spider. My collarbone landed on the rejected typewriter. My left arm joined the red mannequin. The antlers caught my torso. The old lady who lives in the Victorian house slowly waddled and arrived to the source of explosion and sighed, "Oh, not again."

I decided to look up on Alexi, seeing he's taken on third spot of GQ's most stylist men. After browsing his portfolio, I realized I have seen some of his works and just didn't made the connection. I notice he tends to do multiply shots of a person then place the poses in one photo (much like Gwen photo one). That's a fun method ♥

this is a favorite picture of mine, oozing sexiness in the simplistic act of walking.

this reminds me of those shonen manga (Banya?) and i absolutely love it.

Michael Parkes

When I found out Michael Parkes himself was coming to a small town south of San Francisco -- it shocked me. He rarely made an appearance in the U.S. Last one was in NYC and I had missed that one.

When I arrived at the gallery, I can't tell you anything about it -- my emotions were just unexplainable. I couldn't believe that I was standing by his works.
I froze when I saw Michael Parkes himself. His aura was magnificently overwhelming.

The second I took my eyes off him, I stood there thinking about what the hell to say -- he swooshed away in the back & got in a car for the airport (his home is in Spain).

Imagine if I meet David Mack! Jesus, I think I need more time meeting my inspirational idols. ;_;

Kate have been popping up in Sartorialist, Le Fashion and at the fashionspot. Yes, her fashion sense captured my eyes, but her signature look lies in her amazing elaborately-arranged hairdo. That had me looking up on her-- apparently, I wasn't the only one who marvel on her voracious energy. Full of inspiration. She is striking, eminent lady who now have our awareness.

"I didn't want to stage my pictures," noted jazz photographer William Claxton once said.

His work appeared in Interview, Time, Life and Vogue and he teamed up with his wife, model Peggy Moffitt, to work in the field of fashion with designer Rudi Gernreich. Claxton also took many candid snaps of legendary film stars, including Marlene Dietrich and, most notably, his friend Steve McQueen, often shown posing behind the wheel of his beloved automobiles. A collection of Claxton's photographs of comedians, including Robin Williams and Billy Crystal, was published in 1999.

Claxton died on Saturday from complications stemming from congestive heart failure. He is survived by his wife Peggy Moffitt Claxton and his son, Christopher.

Robert M. Pirsig

Robert M. Pirsig is widely known as the author of Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance: An Inquiry into Values. The main reason why I read this book was how he associates travel within his theories. I personally enjoy traveling books, as taking a journey is already an enlightenment itself. It's a double enlightenment when one is reading that genre during a trip.

It serves a source of questions, giving me a chance to exercise my brain cells (or what's left of it).

An Inspiration: Arthur Rackham

Wikipedia:
He was born in London as one of 12 children. At the age of 18, he worked as a clerk at the Westminster Fire Office and began studying at the Lambeth School of Art. In 1892 he quit his job and started working for The Westminster Budget as a reporter and illustrator. His first book illustrations were published in 1893 in The Dolly Dialogues. Book illustrating then became Rackham's career for the rest of his life.

In 1903, he married Edyth Starkie, with whom he had one daughter, Barbara, in 1908. His works were included in numerous exhibitions, including one at the Louvre in Paris in 1914. Arthur Rackham died 1939 of cancer in his home in Limpsfield, Surrey.

Fashion Week 23

Alessandro Dell'Acqua's high-waisted silk bottoms aren't attractive. I am still uneasy to all the high-waisted craziness. I do enjoy specified ones, but not on this one. Knotty heels are too knotty. The kimono-style belts are very adorable. Strong Asian inspiration in this line.

Gianfranco Ferré has it all, classy and sophisticatedly with determination. Usage of the violet hue is overly beautiful. but the wet hair on models has to go, it was a terrible distraction and an insult to the garments.

Very monotone color and choppy in shapes in the Jil Sander line. Some pieces was too simple, but then again, that's tendency in the collection. The heels are very edgey but I'm not too sure of the pain factor.

Sportmax looks unorganized and there were no consistency. I wasn't sure what to look at. Very few of details I did enjoyed but otherwise, it was not bad.

Moschino Cheap + Chic = the art printed on fabric is cute but decidedly cheap. Graffiti smiley faces are ridiculous. Raincoatlike polka dots are old. But I love this:

I am never fond of puffy things but the anesthetics in this impressed me.
Especially the shoes.

Fashion Week 22

I'm not too crazy about the belts, it looks nothing of exotic and too extravagant in the Burberry Prorsum line. Enough with using the belts as the middle on the models. It's tiresome.

The coats are fantastic but the stuck-on 'shells' at a distance isn't comforting.

Trussardi's sophiscated, classy line = powerful. especially when you got the show dogs prancing down the runway as well. I want this jacket but in a darker color:

Giorgio Armani has soft, draping tendency to the line, along with a bit of gypsy glow. Am not fond of the head wraps. This is a very nice attire:

C'N'C Costume National has great aesthetic in the connection of a top. Belts, strands, and twists. Great shape lines on the attire.

Fashion Week 21

Just Cavalli is one of my fave works. For spring 2007 collection, the crazy prints was as usual; but it wasn't a favorable one. The only thing I liked was the bottom aesthetic:
In liking to wrist buttons, I enjoy this concept on pants as well.

Prints must be in - for spring. It is for D+G (also another one of my fave labels), which seems to have the prints all over the line. Soft + aggressive but no extreme that I had expected out of this.

I had a feeling that my grandma and probably my mother as well, helped out with the patterns... (/sarcasm).

The only thing I liked was the distinctive detail on the bottom jacket, a cutout - low to the sides.

Ashley Isham has delicate, modernized Greek nostalgia in the first part of the collection. Strong drapings. Then the last part of the collection was a dazzling, screaming of pixels:

This would guarantee touchings, you just cannot resist to poke...

Few films that I had low expectations and ended up enjoying:

Pride + Prejudice

♥ i was surprised by this film. I had heard of this film before and i was reluctant to watch Kiera in it. Her tendency in peculiar movements of her lips annoy me greatly. Unfortunately, I was more curious about a film that is adapted from Jane Austen's novel and was willing to give it a chance. Hey, it was from the library - who's complaining? After watching the film, I fell in love with the dialogue. it is silently hilarious - also, I enjoyed the human flaws and the struggling to experience affections displayed in the film. Now, I believe this is a film where one could enjoy it so much if one has low expectations of it. And yes, Kiera still has that mouth thing...

Lila Says, Lila dit ça

a French film. I'm always a sucker for foreign flicks. Lila, a sexual young teenager, explore the games of sexuality - not necessarily by acts. Again, the dialogue was impressive, based on the Lila's character. The ending was predictable but I still throughout enjoyed the movie - raw, realistic sexuality that isn't shown that much those days. Of course, foreign flicks love to explore anything! yay!

Dead or Alive (DOA)

Your typical action flick that's adapted from a video game. Haaa - I love this movie. It reminds me so much of Charlie's Angels with the three rawrr-powered ladies. Silly, slapstick, lame lines, and fun moves = entertained.

The Invisible

I would never watched this if my brother hadn't recommended it. So i tried to patiently watch it. I'm glad I did - the casting are unknown in this movie (except the male leading, he was in Wars of the World which isn't a great thing to know, anyway). The movie is slow, soft, and touching. The story has been told before, but this time, it is taken by a slightly, different approach.
The leading woman, Margarita Levievathe, is an amazing actress. i was drawn to her, especially when she had her hair hidden by cap/hoodie - i could focus on her expressions and the body languages.
one good reason why i enjoyed this film is i had no idea what the movie was about. i have a bad habit of researching intensely about a film before seeing it... ♥

I giggled at this 3D-generated photo. They're making it look like a futuristic city. I guess it is... but really, the weather over there must be gloomy so why is it shiny? Maybe only few days out of a year... that'd wake them up whenever it happens.

Fashion Week 20

The decorated patterns are a bonus in the Luciano Soprani collection; along with strong shaping designs, especially in necklines. A few wasn't exactly in the loop along with the garments, but that's okay - overall, it was a becoming, charm line.

Methodical, refined mass of Francesco Scognamiglio was mixed of early era and sophisticated style. Although, the bird cage outfit in the last was kinda of out of blue...

Few bold colors, white and black stripes are the design for Julien Macdonald collection. Too diversity in design, though.

Liking this specific design, as a strap.

Jasper Conran's dazzling gold and shimmering silver knocked the audience out. Very safari-color coordinates. I am purring for the belts.

Lorenzo Riva's line, I want to say, was enchantment and alluring, but somehow the designs give a feeling as if it was done before. However, this one is the best out of the pack:
